On December 24th, 2024, on a brighter day than normal, Johnny took Heather for a walk along the coast in Northern Ireland, at a spot they had visited in the summer, called 'Helen's Bay' in Bangor.

After taking a seat at a bench, looking out to the water of Belfast Lough, and reading Isaiah 40, Johnny suggested they take a minute and just wait... of course Heather asked, 'wait for what?'

Moments later, as Heather took a photo of Johnny by the waters edge, he suggested they take a picture together, as he flagged down a passerby who was walking their dog.

As he handed the dog-walker the phone, he whispered to her that he was going to propose and then proceeded back to Heather. Johnny handed Heather a gift wrapped box, which unbeknownst to her, had her engagement ring inside.

He then got down on one knee, took off his recently acquired Irish flat cap, and asked Heather to marry him. Amidst the tears, she said YES!! With much joy, laughter and tears (a summary of how Heather and Johnny live) they took the time to sit on that very bench where Johnny shared some words he had prepared. Then it was off to celebrate, with champagne and family.

They went to Heather's parents to share the news first, then FaceTimed Johnny's mom Hilda in Dallas, Texas. Then they called Johnny's brothers and their families, Heather's brother and his family. And then they went to visit Heather's sister Sarah and her family in Belfast - to enjoy more cake, balloons and bubbles.
